Caroline Mani began racing in France in 2004, but not on a road bike. She raced on her mountain bike. When her friend beat her during on a cyclocross bicycle, Caroline immediately went out and got herself one. Now she is a professional cyclocross racer for Raleigh-Clement and is stoked to start the season in September. As a premier woman athlete in the sport, she took some time to answer some questions about getting chicks into biking.

Cyclocross veteran Jamey Driscoll has signed with the Raleigh-Clement Cyclocross Team for 2013. He will join Ben Berden, Allen Krughoff, Craig Etheridge, and Caroline Mani by wearing the Raleigh-Clement colors. Jamey spent the past five years riding for Cannondale p/b Cyclocrossworld but before that he was U.S. Junior National Champion in 2003 and has been a member of seven U.S. World Championship Teams.

SUCCESS IN KNOXVILLE FOR RALEIGH’S 706 PROJECT RACERS

The second to last stop on the Southeastern Regional Series (SRS) calendar took Raleigh’s 706 Project team to Knoxville, Tennessee for the Knoxville SRS this weekend. The race was a 75-minute crit on a four-turn hilly course and a 91-mile road race on rolling, twisty roads. The 706 Project team was striving to strengthen David Winston’s overall lead and Andy Scarano’s lead in the King of the Mountain competition.

R2R: US PARALYMPIC TRIATHLETE GOT HIS START WITH RIDE 2 RECOVERY

Nathan DeWalt was awaiting his deployment to Afghanistan when he was hit by a car on his motorcycle and paralyzed from the waist down, severing his spinal cord. He was in the US Navy, an avid competitor in many Navy Morale, Welfare and Recreation events and hoped to qualify for SEAL training.  But instead of lying low after his injury, Nate wouldn’t let himself stay still and forget his passions.

RALEIGH’S 706 PROJECT RACES THE TOUR DE PARIS-LANDING

The racing hasn’t become any easier throughout the long season, but the boys of Raleigh’s 706 Project seem to be getting faster and faster. Ryan Sullivan, Brendan Cornett and Andy Scarano were ready early Saturday morning in Buchanan, TN at the Paris-Landing State Park, but a thunderstorm delayed them an hour. Finally, the race officials decided to start the 44-mile day in the pouring rain and the wet riders left the state park.

RIDE 2 RECOVERY VETERAN ENTERS LEADVILLE TRAIL 100

Matt DeWitt, a native New Hampshire resident and a former competitive mountain biker, joined the US Army in 1998. Part of the initial invasion of Iraq, DeWitt was on duty in Khalidiyah in 2003 when a rocket-propelled grenade hit him. He lost both of his arms below the elbow.

RALEIGH’S TEAM AETNA RACES NEW YORK’S TOUR OF THE CATSKILLS

The Raleigh “Militis 3″ proved – yet again – to be a fantastic all-around performing bike for the Aetna Cycling Team p/b The CCAP.

The team raced the the three-day “Tour of The Catskills,” bringing John Harris, Ryan Serbel, Dan Caridi, David Hoyle, Aidan Charles, and Austin Vincent (guest rider) along for the journey to the Catskill region of New York.

R2R: ARMY VET’S PASSION LEADS HER TO DEVELOP PROJECT HERO

Barb Springer’s passions led her to Ride 2 Recovery (R2R). She was a marathon runner, was the head of multiple military physical service centers and served for 24 years in the U.S. Army.  When nearing her retirement, the founder of R2R approached her at the Warrior Games and asked if she would work for the R2R program. And although she wasn’t a cyclist and was still on active duty, she said “yes.” She finished her service on June 30, 2011 and started her new job with R2R on August 1. She hasn’t looked back since.
