Rutgers Cyclocross
The Raleigh Sponsored crew at Rutgers had another great cross season in the NorthEast….
“For the fifth straight year, Rutgers has won the Eastern Collegiate Cycling Conference Cyclocross Championship. With the support of co-sponsor Raleigh Bicycles and presenting sponsor Kim’s Bike Shop, Rutgers fielded an impressive team of ten riders at the NBX Grand Prix in Warwick, RI (part of the Verge NECCS series) to cap off a season that saw Rutgers riders on the podium every weekend.
In addition to winning the team title, Rutgers also swept the individual categories. Patrick Bradley took the Men’s A overall, Molly Hurford took the Women’s B overall (and the Division 1 Women’s A title), Charlie Thompson took the Men’s B overall, and freshman Adam Nawrot had an amazing first season with Rutgers to win the Men’s C overall.”
Congrats again…we’re already looking forward to next season.

SSCX Carbon
The word is out. Honestly, it was a pretty natural progression and everyone should’ve seen it coming.Â
It all started a couple years ago when we surprised everyone at Interbike our SSCX Rainier race bike. Super limited edition and sexy, it quickly developed a cult following in the niche SSCX scene.Â
The following year we released the HiLife. Still a limited edition bike, but one with much broader appeal to the CX market.Â
Hot on the heals of the HiLife we partnered with the crew putting on SSCXWC and did something no one saw coming. A “golden ticket” styled frame give away in which all the proceeds from the sale of the frames went directly to the event and one lucky winner went riding off the muddy course with a one of a kind ride that no one else will ever have.Â
Having, seemingly, tapped what we could do with that frame design we did only what was natural…we turned to carbon. This year another very limited offering of SSCX frames are being made available to help promote and host SSCXWC that went on in Seattle. If you want one…snag on from that crew. Cause once those are gone…they’re gone.

It is truly an honor that Laurent Fignon rode a Raleigh during the most exciting tour ever in 1989.Â

Record Review
2010 Raleigh Record Ace as reviewed by the staff at Bicycling Magazine.Â
A couple of side notes…I’ve been able to find the Record Ace dating back to 1936…anyone have proof of one before then? Second…for 2011 the Record Ace has received an upgrade to Shimano 105 brakes.
Plus…Le Bike Club got a hold of one and decided to personalize their Record Ace…check out their words and beautiful pics…
The latest edition of Bicycling Magazine is on newstands now…

Why Steel?
Recently we’ve really started to expand our line of Steel bikes while other companies are heavy handed into Carbon everything. Every now and then, some folks ask why we’re still making steel bikes. Why are we making a lugged 853 International? Why did we make an 853 XXIX Pro instead of a carbon? Why are our high end commuter bikes steel instead of aluminum?Â
The answer isn’t as simple as saying…Heritage…there is something more there. And seeing this clip from an upcoming Rapha film looks like it will expose some of the emotion that is behind this material…
(caution…there’s some Italian swearing)

A Couple From the InterNerd
A few months ago the crew at Urban Velo received a Rush Hour FB. I was initally stoked that they just wrote up about getting the bike and what their initial thoughts were on it. Being the professionals that they are though…they wrote a follow up on it after spending a couple months riding it. You can read their likes and dislikes all HERE.
On top of that…we just put up our 2011 bikes on the website last week and we’re already receiving hits and mentions on a few of em. In particular the International seems to be turning some heads. It caught the attention of John “Prolly” and his site Prolly is not Probably. I’m not the brightest bulb in the socket…but I think he liked the look of it. Check it out HERE.

This Will Totally Void Your Warranty
But wouldn’t it be kinda fun to give it a try?
And to squash any questions before they start…that is a Raleigh UK Carbon Road bike. It is not available in the US. This is what is available in the UK and this is what is available in the US. While Raleigh distributes bikes around the world, each branch creates different bikes for different markets.Â

Best Young Rider
Raleigh VP Chris Speyer was recognized as an “up and comer for his work to reinvigorate Raleigh’s product line as well as his service to the industry on the BPSA’s statistics committee” at the the recent BRAINy Awards in Monterey. The Awards placed an emphasis on individual achievement and industry service at the Bicycle Leadership Conference. Raleigh is glad to have Chris on board and look forward to what he has in store…

Some Secrets…
Are better off not being secrets at all.Â
Which is why we shared some pictures of a Reynolds 853 XXIX we made for our “Factory Riders” who are out and about. Currently, these are marketing frames only and are only available to our band of merry pranksters. The frame is exactly the same as our current XXIX, just made up with Reynolds 853. And as always, Guitar Ted over at 29inches.com is quick on the uptake and getting the info out there. You can find more information by clicking {here}
