Carlton Mixte 8

* Required Fields

A beautiful mix of classic Raleigh good looks and modern functionality, the Carlton Mixte 8 handles beautifully whether you are zipping uptown to the grab coffee, cruising down to the bakery for tonight’s baguette, or riding through the city to work. With 8 speeds to choose from and color matched fenders to keep you clean and dry, this bike can tackle hills in the elements and still leave you looking cool, classy and collected.

This stylish urban bike has unique low slung dual top tubes for easy on and off, a one piece integrated handlebar and stem for a nice clean look, and a platform rack with classy wood inlay featuring a burnished Raleigh Heron insignia. Reflective decaling on the downtube adds visibility for riding at night or during early morning hours, and the bike bell lets peds and other riders know you’re coming.

Overall Quality

The original mixte design dates back to about the year 1900 and from the Age of Iron. The modern Raleigh Mixte 8 design is moderately modified, has"touring" fork and frame geometry and includes a few great but unadvertised features. 1) Its fork and frame are made of CrMo steel, the "real steel" for touring, city and commuting bikes. 2) Its front rack is not designed for heavy duty use but its frame has all of the tabs and mounting points for a full sized, heavy duty, rear cargo rack. 3) Although equipped as new with a 1x8 gear train, it also includes an unused cable stop near the upper end of its down tube for an optional, customer provided, front derailleur and I am rebuilding my own new Mixte 8 with a 3x9 gear train, while other gearing options are available, too, HOWEVER, this gear train changeover can be done only on the Mixte 8 model and NOT on the single-speed Mixte model because the Mixte 8 has vertical rear frame dropouts and the single-speed Mixte has horizontal rear frame dropouts which, however, are typically suitable for multi-speed Gear-In-Hub conversions. Anyway, these are nice mixte bikes, thoughtfully designed and well made. Get one while available!
