Travel-ready Timeless ClassicReview by catalog.bike
In short – I love this bike. However, few important improvements do not come right out of the box.
Primarily, this bicycle will be serving me during long distance rides away from home. Ritchey breakaway was definitely a primary selling point. In addition, I am in love with classic steel bicycles. This is a perfect combination of two.
Sticker “Made in China” next to Raleigh name is a disappointment for the MSRP price tag.
My list of things to get this bike ready for a long distance ride
1. Frame (60 cm) – easy to disassemble, comfortable to ride.
a. Added - Ritchey TorqKey 4Nm tool, to ensure the tension is right on breakaway system.
b. Added – Pedal wrench to have handy
c. Added - Velcro tubing protection for safer packaging
d. Added - Scicon gear protection: for drive chain ( keep travel box clean) and derailleur protector.
e. Treated frame with J.P. Weiles frame saver, as there are post-winter salty roads where I am.
2. Breaks - effective and fun
3. Shifters – seem to be great option for shorter rides
a. Shifting is ok, but not perfect. Too soon to judge, though.
4. Wheels - round and good looking.
a. Replaced original tires with Conti tires and tubes
b. I would be more comfortable with 36 spokes on a larger frame and for heavier riders. I hope spokes will not be breaking soon.
5. Handle bar – short drop design
a. I will give it another chance, but drops feel a bit short for larger hands. SO far, It looks, like I will let it go too, once I see an adequate replacement.
6. Saddle – Looks attractive enough to be on container store bicycles. I would trade it for no saddle, but with Campagnolo chain.
a. Replaced with higher quality saddle
7. Pedals – will not be used, another trade-in candidate.
a. Replaced with Shimano SPD touring pedals
8. Chain – KMC
a. I broke the chain on the very first short hill. Replaced with Campy 10 Veloce, to match the gruppo and to gain some confidence.
9. Bottom bracket – requires some skills and tools to disassemble, but looks solid

Awesome steel bike!Review by Born again roadieOverall Quality
I was after a full steel bike it didn't weigh over 30 lb and having the Ritchey Breakaway frame was an awesome bonus! After setup this bike rode like a pure steel road bike like the ones I used to love. The Campy group looks boss and performs perfectly. I even like the stock bars and tires. The seat not so much, it had to go. Gravel, pavement, this bike handles it all and has the practicality of being able to be packed away and its own case which is about the size of a large suitcase. The looks are gentlemen approved - understated but classy. I literally fell in love with it on the first ride. This 2017 Raleigh Gran Prix is a great bike.(Posted on 3/19/2018)
Excellent QualityReview by wsgtsOverall Quality
This is my first Ritchey break-away frame bike, so I figured that having a break-away frame I would be losing something. I am happy to report this is not the case. I moved my saddle and tires from my old road bike onto my break-away bike. I immediately made new PRs on all my usual Strava segments. The riding position is much more aggressive, and the bike easily packs away in its case, just watch the chain on the carpet (nasty). This is also my first Campagnolo groupset which I am also pleased to report works perfectly with minor adjustment after reassembly.

Lively ride that insults the weekend warriors on the plastic racers.Review by ChrisOverall Quality
This is the real deal. I bought mine as a frameset and built it up with Campagnolo Veloce (black) , Fulcrom CX wheels, Brooks C17 Saddle and Salsa Moto 3 bars. For tires I went with Compass 700x32 which I run at 50psi. This bike looks very sharp. It is comfortable, responsive, and stable. At 100rpm cadence it'll jump up rollers. It's very stable on gravel, I start and end each ride with three miles of it. Best of all, it outruns those multi thousand dollar plastic wonder bikes. I am very happy with this purchase and Raleigh's support. It's nice knowing that when I need any help, it's just an e-mail away. I have owned a custom Serotta which had shimmy issues. The Grand Prix has none of that. Love this bike!(Posted on 7/11/2017)
