Ready to hit the road? Raleigh's Merit 1 is the ideal entry-level endurance road bike for commuting, joining a group ride, or riding around town. The Merit 1 will take you farther than ever before without breaking the bank. Made for comfort and efficiency on long rides, the Merit 1 also offers quick handling to avoid obstacles and wider tires for stability.
Designed with a 6061 aluminum frame and custom tapered alloy SPF fork, the Merit 1 is light and fast. The Shimano Claris 8spd STI shifters help flatten out any hill with 16 speeds to choose from. The Kenda Kwick Roller Sport 700X28c tires are fast rolling, yet comfortable. And the optional 30c tire fitment for larger tires makes this bike a little more capable than a standard road bike.

Surprisingly Nice Bike!

Review by Mike Q
Overall Quality

I purchased this bike about 3 months ago at a great sale price. I was very pleasantly surprised at the quality and finish as well as the fact that it's very light weight for an "entry level" bike. The Claris components are pretty standard at this level and they work well. Wheels were true and the 700x28c tires make the ride pretty comfortable. While the components are typically entry level, the frame on this bike is the beyond what I think you would find on most bikes in this price range. It's very light, well built and the paint job is beautiful. It would certainly be worthy of future upgrades. The only downside to it would be that this does not have a carbon fork. But given that this thing can take some bigger tires, that may not be a issue in regard to comfort over longer or bumpier rides. I have not taken this bike on a very long ride yet but on shorter rides, comfort has not been an issue. This is my second Raleigh bike. My first, a Willard 1, is still my favorite as an all around bike and has been remarkably comfortable in all conditions. But, if you are looking for a great road bike at a nice price, it's hard to go wrong with the Merit 1.

Great bike for the price!

This isn't a bike you are getting instead of an aero carbon racer, this is a fantastic road bike without having to go broke in the process. Handles well and is again to ride leisurely on the way to work or quickly on a group ride.

If you want a little better performance go with the Merit 3 for better components, but in all honesty the Shimano Claris has performed great and there will be little noticeable difference in perfmance for most riders!

Excellent Excellent Excellent

I purchased this bike back in March 2017 because I wanted to get into road biking but I did not have much of a budget. Since then I have put Somewhere in the area of approximately 1000 miles on this bike. For the price, you will not find a better beginners road bike to get you up and down the highway, around town, or up and down the bike path. . Excellent components and very well made. A very very smooth riding road bike.

Great Entry Road Bike

This is a great road bike if you are getting into road biking but if you can stretch your budget, go for a Merit 3 for the upgraded group set components.

Overall, this is a great bike for casual road biking around town and on paths.
