Smooth endurance bike, definitely flying under the biking radar!

Review by Rambling Man
Overall Quality

I bought this bike last fall from my LBS, Rothrock Outfitters in Huntingdon PA. It is a Merit 2 leftover 2016 and I couldn't be happier. I've ridden it only 600 trouble free miles thus far, mostly on local rails to trails. The Merit 2 is fairly light, comfortable and rather quick. Bike components are high quality, however the drive train was slightly downgraded for the 2017 Merit 2. The only updates I've done are adding Gatorskins and replacing the seat and pedals. I like this bike a lot and it compares very well to the more expensive Treks, Specialized and Giants I also considered. Enjoy the ride!

Better than just entry level road bike

Review by Rob
Overall Quality

I had this bike for about 2 months, and absolutely love it. I use it as my road bike to train for XC mountain bike racing. The group-set is great and perfect for the hilly terrain I ride in. I was torn between getting a road-race geometry and endurance and I'm happy with my choice. The head tube is not as long as other endurance bikes out there and allows me to still get into a good aerodynamic position. The bike climbs well and is stable at high speed. The disc brakes are easy to set-up and the thru-axles ensures that the pad and rotors are always aligned. The wheels are staying true after more than a 1000 km of riding. Only the seat is what I had to replace (was a bit too wide for me), but that was expected.

Value packed road/fitness bike. Compares very well with the Trek, Specialized, Giant crowd at a better price point.

I bought my Merit 2 last winter and currently have only 600 miles on it, but so far I'm impressed. Comfortable and fast on the roads and rails to trails that I ride here in central PA. I usually ride 20 to 35 miles 2 or 3 times a week with no problems. The Raleigh has quality components that competing brands seem to charge a lot more for. The disc brakes and sturdy frame are my favorites. Compare the Merit 2 to the big boys before you buy......I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Great light weight bike with tons of features

Review by Jeff
Overall Quality

Now that I have a couple hundred miles on this bike, here are my observations.

1. Great light weight road bike. It is my first road bike and I know there are lighter road bikes available, but for the price, this is a good value.

2. Yes, it is a 2016 model, but it has features not available on its replacement, shock absorbing seat post and stem, carbon fork.

3. For those that order this bike direct, taking it to the local bike shop for assembly might be good idea. Especially if you are not that mechaniclly inclined or have not worked on bikes in the past.

Getting the front brake set up is fairly easy if you download and read the manual. My front brake caliper still had to be moved slightly tp the outside as the spokes would hit it otherwise.

I found several videos on YouTube to fine tune the shifting, and after a break in period you may need to do so again.

4. Adding spd clipless pedals is an option. I know several people that prefer using the test ride pedal which are rather well built. Still if you do not opt for clipless, you may want to upgrade to a better pedal.

Overall I am pleased with this bike and would recommend it to anyone who wants a good road bike, without spending a fortune and is not into competitive biking.

Great bike.

Great bike so far. Had it for about a month and really love the dampening on the stem and seatpost. Does wonders on the rough roads around me. Shifts are smooth and so are the disc brakes.
