Brilliant Bike

Review by Tremendously Capable Bike!
Overall Quality

If you're looking for a bike that can handle various riding surfaces, distances, types of riding (commuting, overnight etc), you cannot do worse than the Merit Comp. I've been riding the Merit Comp since March, and I've been very impressed with the ride quality - whether it's a quick 8 mile to work or a 40 mile jaunt. The build quality is tremendous, and the components are superb! Everything comes together with this bike and you will hard pressed to find another bike that can beat the Merit Comp. Tremendous bike!

Solid value

Review by Joecode

As I write this, I notice it is currently out of stock. I hope you can get one for the $1400 I did. I knew I wanted a light, endurance bike and it had to have hydraulic discs. Nobody else had a better value. I commute daily on this bike. The brakes are fantastic and have saved my life twice already. It is easy to lift up and down the stairs at only 20 lbs. The Shimano 105 components shift beautifully. I started out at 290 lbs and the bike is having no issues under that kind of force. It's design is beautiful. I couldn't recommend it more.

A Bike That Was Custom Made For Me.........

Review by Bill
Overall Quality

I was not definitely looking for a new bike That is until I saw this bike in Belmar Bike Shop. (Belmar, N.J.). I am an aging Road Cyclist with probably 50,000+ miles under my belt. I have been riding @ least 3,000 miles a year since 1983. The shop I visited is very reputable & our familiar with my riding habits. Old cycling injuries have begun to nag me. However, I am not willing to give up my passion. As I was looking through the inventory, I was told by Logan (an employee) that he thinks he has a bike that "would be perfect for you". At that moment he showed me a Merit "Comp". As I looked it over, looking for things I would have to change, I realized that for the first time buying a bike, their was nothing to change. Took one very brief ride, & "wham". I knew it was a must have to enable me to continue to ride "pain free". Changed to my clipless pedals & on my very first ride, I knew I had found "the fountain of youth" for this aging cyclist. My first distance ride made me feel like I was 30 yrs. younger. I was also able to ride the very next day, something I was not able to do for sometime. The ride is impeccable, like going from my an old VW Beetle to a Porsche Carrera. Thank you Raleigh & Belmar Bike for giving me a gift that cannot be financially assessed. All components (Shimano 105-700 X 28 Clements-Disc Brakes etc. etc.) were sent to me from the "Cycle Gods". Maybe it was 'Karma'? I am certain of one thing, you are going to need a crow bar to wipe the smile off my face this summer.

Finally a road machine I love to ride on any surface. A true "endurance" bike that feels like it was custom-built just for me!

I originally set out to purchase a steel frame cross bike for touring and occasional gravel and hard-pack roads, but by chance spotted this beautifully designed carbon thru-axle disc-equipped endurance bike on Raleigh's web-site, on sale to boot that happened to be in my price range marked down at $1,232.00!! Raleigh shipped the bike that day and I picked it up 3 days later, assembled, then set up professionally when I arrived, at no charge, and I was off and riding until dark. I'm absolutely impressed with the entire process! The frame is spot-on, and the 105 components are crisp and seamless when shifting, and the hydraulic disc brakes are amazingly effecient-especially in wet conditions and cornering with confidence. The Merit Comp accerlerates with noticeably less effort than my Trek 2300 aluminum bike, and the thru-axle frame tracks significantly stabler through descending curves, especially when braking. I plan to purchase a Bob Ibex trailer for touring with cargo from North Carolina to Wasington State sometime this coming summer. I'm one hundred percent confident that I hit a homerun when I purchased my Merit Comp, and I feel like a kid on Christmas morning every time I ride this baby!! Oh yeah, I'd feel the same way even if I'd paid the full retail price, $2,009.00! Highly recommend this bike to releive stress, lowering blood pressure, and curing loneliness! :-)

Glossy Black and Orange Looks Great

Shimano 105 Equipped and works well so far. The paint is a shiny black and orange while we thought it would be mat colors. We are happy with the purchase.

Great Bike, Checks all the boxes

Review by Todd
Overall Quality

I was in the market for a carbon road bike and stumbled upon this one a few weeks ago. I wanted something with a 11 speed drivetrain, a carbon frame, and wouldn't break the bank. This bike meets all those requirements and more.
The 105 derailleurs and the RS500 shifters shift nice and smooth.
The 50-34 RS500 crankset and the 11-32 cassette give a nice wide range of gearing.
The hydraulic disc brakes give great stopping power and nice lever modulation.
The thru-axle hubs make it easy to take the wheels on and off without getting the disc brakes out of alignment.
The 28C tires give a smooth ride and aren't too heavy to effect acceleration.
The carbon frame is nice and stiff and you can just feel the power going to the rear wheels, a noticeable difference over my old 2004 aluminum road bike.
I think I stole this bike as I got it on sale for $1232 a few weeks ago, but the $1999 price tag would still be worth it in my opinion.
