Tires

Review by Mike
Overall Quality

Re: The review above regarding the tires. It actually is listed in the specs. Also - who cares? 540s are very common.

Excellent Value

I selected this bike for my growing daughter. It has gearing perfect for her range of speeds and terrain, and the simplicity of a 1x drivetrain really sold me. The disc brakes and quality brand components are a nice bonus. I'll give it 5 stars, but I do have a couple small gripes:

1. square taper bottom bracket...seriously, why does anybody still use these?
2. QR skewers instead of thru-axles with disc brakes? I thought that wasn't advisable. It seems to work well enough, and I don't think the two can come into conflict.

Great bike, any way to fix chains dropping of the front chainring?

Review by KBJ
Overall Quality

I purchased two RX-24s for my twin 10 year old daughters to begin road riding with my wife and I this summer. The girls adapted quickly to the bicycles completing two days of RAGBRAI, around 50 miles per day. The bikes were perfectly sized and the reach adjustment on the SRAM levers was critical to ensure they could both effectively utilize their breaks from the hoods and the drops.

We have only faced one major issue with the bikes so far and that is the front chain ring. On both bikes, the chain frequently slips off of the front chain ring and attempts to lodge itself in between the chain ring and the chain ring guard especially in the smallest two cassette rings. This same issue has also led to the bikes having issues with chain suck as well. Reading forums it looks like I may be forced to purchase a Wolf's tooth or similar chain ring to stop the problem.

Raleigh, if you guys have figured out an answer to keep this from happening, let me know. This flaw is the only thing detracting from an otherwise phenomenal product.

Other than that issue, an excellent bike that I would recommend to any parent looking for a solid ride for their kids to keep up over long distance road rides. We did all our riding on the stock knobbies, but if you want slicks several really nice wheelchair tires are available in the right size.

decente bike with sub-par tires...

My daughter loves this bike... but I am very frustrated with the poor choice of wheel diameters. There are many tire manufacturers making great tires for the 24" wheel but none of them fit this bike. It comes stock with a 540 tire instead of the standard 507 for 24" wheels, but you don't see that listed under Spec's?? The bike has a decent weight and decent components especially for the price, but I would have paid a little more for decent standard wheels so you are not stuck with the stock tires.
