Tamland 2 (2017)

Ready for the discerning commuter who morphs into a gravel racer come the weekend, the Tamland 2 is a modern take on classic steel. Made with geometry that inspires confidence in deep, loose gravel or dirt, the versatile Tamland 2 allows you to go where most bikes can't, but also offers the flexibility to ride in complete comfort as a higher end commuter bike.

The Tamland 2 is made with an extremely strong, responsive Reynolds 631 Chromoly frame reducing the harsh realities of the road, and the carbon fork makes steering feel light and easy. To take on all kinds of conditions, the Tamland 2 features mechanical disc brakes with great stopping power in inclement weather and thru axles on front and rear for a more responsive and safe ride.

A SRAM Rival 1X drivetrain with 11-42t wide range cassette provides a huge range of gears, better shift responsiveness and lower maintenance. Drop bars bring out the racer in any rider and Clement X'PLOR MSO, 700×40c tires offer great traction in all conditions. For the discerning gravel racer and commuter who wants the best components, consider the Tamland 2.

Incredible Bike, Incredible Value

Review by LindyLou

I have had a nice Carbon bike for a few years and never thought I would ever buy another one. But when I decided to start gravel biking I had my eye on this gem! What a beautiful bike first of all, and the stability is amazing at higher speeds. The gearing is awesome and I tell you it's an absolute joy to ride this thing! It had everything I wanted, carbon fork, steel frame, 1x11 drive train and 160mm rotors. I got lots of gears for even steep climbing! It rides so fast I can run with my friends on carbon bikes! Love this!

Great bike w/ a few cheap components

This bike has been a joy to ride. In the two months I have owned it, I have put about 350 miles on it, ridden singletrack, gravel, pavement, and done a 40-mile beer run with all of those mixed in. I put a rack on the back of the bike and it seems to ride even better with a bit of a load. This bike rides great and most of the components are well spec'd.
My complaints are:
1) the hubs are absolute crap (mud and water found their way into the cup and cone bearing set up during a gravel race making it pretty difficult to turn those wheels. I had to completely break down the hubs and clean the sand out to get them turning smoothly again. To note, I was slogging through axle deep mud and water when this happened, but this is an adventure bike and adventures should contain slogging through axle deep mud and water.
2) the seat (although this is mostly user preference)
3) Fork needs attachment points for a rack, it will only hand fenders...
4) The rear derailleur shifter cable is run exposed on the underside, which imo is a poor choice for a bike that sees more dirt and gravel than pavement
1) The frame is excellent riding.
2) The brakes, shifters, crank are all great quality. The mechanical brakes do a good job stopping my 225lbs of momentum.
3) the raliegh cockpit is comfortable.
4) the rims are good, came taped for tubeless, and sealed up relatively easily.
5) I've sworn off quick release, so I'm very thankful for the thru axles.

Exceeded expectations

I'm a full fledged enduro mountain biker and never imagined in a million years I would own a bike like this. I bought the Tamland 2 primarily to keep my riding season going thru the winter and keep my legs fresh to avoid months of getting back into riding shape in the spring. Man this bike performs! I can't believe I'm typing this but I haven't touched my $5,000 full suspension rig since I picked this up 6 weeks ago. I've already put about 300 miles on this bike. I can't get enough of it and my legs are easily twice as strong now as they were before. If I only had one gripe it'd be the brakes. It'd be a combination of stopping power and the shifter getting in the way of getting a good squeeze on the rear brake. It wouldn't prevent me from buying the bike if I knew about it beforehand and it certainly doesn't limit the fun factor but its one of the minor hits on this bike for me. I've taken this bike on some pretty gnarly trails for a road bike and it has handled everything I've thrown at it without issue. Way to go Raleigh! I'm officially a fan

Smooth ride!

Review by Todd
Overall Quality

Love this bike. The steel frame has a smooth ride. The welds are tidy and the paint colorway looks great in person. The carbon fork helps soak up road/off-road buzz. The 1x drivetrain is my first, really satisfied with the gear range and the shifting. Geometry is well thought out, steering very stable yet nimble enough to navigate light singletrack. The clement tires roll well on the pavement, track well in gravel, and their volume smooths out the ride. I have a few minor concerns...stock saddle wasn't really to my liking. OEM wheels a bit heavy. Though neither should be a surprise at this price point.
Overall I feel the Tamland 2 is an outstanding value. Compared it to a major competitors bike named after a really tall tree...the tamland is pounds lighter and 60% cheaper.
Great job Raleigh! See you out there on the gravel!
