Tokul 3

And now for something a little different. Raleigh's taken trail aggressive geometry and threw in a hardtail, plus! what came out is a fun, playful, hardtail plus bike made for looser conditions and year-round riding with a cool factor that you can only explain by riding it. Introducing the Tokul 3.

The Tokul 3 offers a SRAM 1×11 drivetrain, front and rear thru axles, and a SR Suntour xcr-32 air 27.5+ fork with 120mm of travel, and lock out/rebound. An aggressive trail bike, the Tokul 3 loves to play in rooty, rocky trails and takes you through lines you never thought possible.

The Tokul 3 is designed with an al-6061 SL custom butted aluminum frame with tapered head tube and a squishy SR Suntour XCR 32 air fork. The Weinmann U50 TL, 27.5 rims and Kenda havoc 27.5×2.8 tires are more forgiving, leveling out even the toughest terrain. And the Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes ensure consistent stopping power when flying into the turns.

Awesome Value!

I bought this bike for my wife to get into mtn biking. We wanted something that would make her feel comfortable, but that she could use on actual trails. It climbs well, absorbs rocks, and give her a lot of confidence going down. I jumped on it and rode it for a while and it is a great all-around bike and one that would suit a huge variety of riders. It is solid, great geo and super fun to ride. In addition to the great ride qualities, the build is SO good for the price. It is surprising the could put the NX 1X11 at this price point. Very hard to beat! My wife and I are huge fans of this bike.

Fun bike!

This bike gives you a lot for the price. It can climb well but descends even better. My strava times really shine on the descents more than the climbs but keep in mind I am 6 foot 3 and 205 pounds. The Tokul 3 feels playful yet solid. The Kenda Havoks dont appear to be tubless ready but the wheels are capable of going tubeless. The havoks also don't seem to bite as well as I like in fast/flat corners. The plus tires make the ride more smooth and give you the feel of 29ers so you feel you can roll over anything. The frame appears to have stealth routing for a dropper which is my next upgrade for sure. I am so tired of stopping to drop/raise my saddle. The SRAM NX with a 30T chainring and 11-42 cassette is more geared for the climbing which is a good thing. I only want more gears if I am on a downhill road on my way home from the trails. The suntour fork has been fantastic since I have gotten it dialed in on the air-pressure and rebound. I tend to lock it out on long climbs which is a nice feature. My biggest complaint would be the brakes, especially the rotors. My rotors really have a gobble which is more on the annoying side. They are slightly lacking on the stopping power when on really steep descents. Over-all this is a great bike and lot's of fun! Here is a list of my upgrades so far and my planned upgrades in order so you can get a better idea on what the bike needs.
1. Grips (I needed more comfort - wolftooth fat paws)
2. Pedals - (I needed flats with larger pins)
Future upgrades planned
1. Dropper post!
2. SRAM Centerline rotors - 200/180.
3. TRP slate 4 piston brakes.
4. Surly Dirt wizards or possibly Specialized Slaughter/butcher combo.
5. 800mm handlebars.

No regrets

I had been riding a 12 year old 26" mountain bike that I got for free for about a year. I eventually decided on upgrading to the Tokul 3 and getting one for my fiance as a wedding/birthday present for her. The difference has been night and day. I have always been the type of guy that says it's not the bike it's the rider, but once I got out on the trails on this thing I have to admit that sometimes its the bike. On my old 26" bike I would struggle to keep up with the pack but now I can keep up nearly effortlessly. The 27.5+ tires are awesome. I plan on running the bike tubeless after my next paycheck. My Fiance absolutely loves the bike as well. I definitely recommend. In my opinion the gearing is spot on. I have never ran out of gears climbing hills. I have wanted some harder gears for riding to the trails on the pavement, however I would not want to put a second chain ring on the front for the convenience of getting to the trail a little faster.

You will be hard pressed to find a bike as nice, well equipped, and modern at this price. The most recent hub spacing and 1x11 drivetrain make this bike almost future proof. If you're new to biking or a seasoned veteran this bike is a ton of fun!
