Tokul 3 (2019)

* Required Fields

The Tokul 3 is a trail bike designed for all-out commitment and sketchy conditions. This playful hardtail is built on a rugged aluminum frame that’s longer and slacker than the Tokul 2. Grippy 27.5x2.6 tires mounted on 50mm wide rims provide more confident handling when things get loose.

The Tokul 3 comes equipped with SRAM NX 1x11 drivetrain components, front and rear thru-axles, and an SR Suntour XCR-32 fork with 120mm of travel. Tektro Auriga hydraulic disc brakes ensure consistent stopping power when flying into the corners. All of that adds up to a bike that can hold its own at the bike park and lets you open up the throttle on your weekday trails.

Overall Quality

when I got the Tokul 3 it was around $1199 which I thought was an okay price. When I got it the derailleur hanger was bent and I noticed that the tires weren't what the description said it was. However, the quality is overall good but for the money I spend, I would have expected a better fork and brakes.

I shopped around for a hardtail with a budget higher than the cost of this one. I chose the Raleigh because it has modern geometry, between aggressive and conservative, nice looks, standard spacing with through axles front and rear and a tapered headtube. The Tokul 3 doesn't have any proprietary standards to pigeon hole my future options like many other bikes in this category. I've taken the rest of my budget and upgraded a few key components and it's a completely shreddable ride. I ordered it through this site and it came packaged very well with reusable velcro straps instead of zipties or tape holding the packing material. No scratches, dents, etc and everything is true. The frame feels solid and the paint looks great. It's not as dark as in the photos, but it's a seriously nice part of the bike. I was a little disappointed to see it came with the Weinmann U40 and not the U50 on the spec sheet, but I have a feeling the 40s may be stronger. I was eager to see the plus size tire profile on 50mm wide rims but they look good and handle fine on the 40s. I replaced the tubes with some tubeless valves and sealant. The tires seated easily with a high volume floor pump. Stock tires are OK. The rims have tubeless tape already installed. I'm very happy with this bike and I'm confident I made the right choice going for the cheaper sticker price while surpassing some other more expensive bikes with a few upgrades - getting in there with some tools is fun too.
